Poland: US Stonewalling CIA Black Site InvestigationPolish Govt Seeks Senate Torture Report in Probe of Torture Site
by Jason Ditz, June 12, 2015

Polish prosecutors today accused the Obama Administration of “stonewalling” a Polish government investigation of CIA torture at a secretly run black site in northern Poland, and that they don’t seem to be able to get any response from the US at all on their requests.

Poland has been probing the incidents for years, and last month complied with an EU court order insisting they make compensatory payments to a pair of CIA detainees who were tortured in Poland.

President Obama conceded, with the release of a heavily redacted summary of the torture program, that “we tortured some folks.” Poland’s government is still trying to get its hands on the Senate report itself, on which the summary was based, and formally requested it from the Justice Department.

Despite Poland being a close US ally, and despite the administration insisting they want to be as transparent as possible, their response so far has been a total lack of response, apparently hoping that the Poles will eventually forget they even requested the documents. Either way, it seems like they’re not going to get any US help in probing the torture that took place on Polish soil.
