China unveiled a new-generation fighter aircraft Jian-10, which officials claim is 'superior' in many aspects to the US F-16 and French Mirage 2000 jets. The J-10 fighter jet, a third-generation fighter plane independently designed by Chinese military experts, was unveiled officially with a video showing the fighter aircraft taking off, landing, firing missiles and flying in formation. J-10 is the most advanced fighter jet developed by China and the country's air force has been equipped with the first batch of the aircraft. Benefitting from the state-of-the-art technology, it would turn out superior in many aspects than the F-16 and Mirage 2000 aircraft which dominated the 1980s, officials said. China was the fourth country in the world to develop its own advanced fighter aircraft, aero-engines and missiles, deputy general manager of the China Aviation Industry Corporation I (AVIC I), Geng Ruguang said. The Chinese defence industry has developed Jian-10, the Taihang turbofan engine and new-generation air-to-air missiles, he said. China had indicated that it has developed a new generation fighter aircraft while releasing the White Paper on National Defence 2006 last week. |
