India will establish a cyber command and control authority to combat the rising cyber attacks. This was disclosed by Defence Minister A.K Antony while talking to reporters after reviewing the passing out parade of the first batch of 60 Navy Officer Cadets at the Ezhimala Naval Academy in Kerala’s northern district of Kannur district on Saturday. The federal minister said India was late in making preparations to face the cyber security challenges. However, the defence department has now made big advancements in the area and the cyber command will become a reality soon. India was spurred by the rising cyber attacks from Pakistan, China and erstwhile Soviet Union on Indian websites and computer networks. The proposed cyber command is likely to come under the national security adviser, who reports to the prime minister. Referring to the border disputes with China, the defence minister admitted that there were serious problems in some sectors. He said he was hopeful that the disputes could be resolved through talks. “We are not expecting any wonders in the border matters. We will continue to follow the policy of competition and friendship with China. The infrastructure on the borders is being improved by both the countries as they made steady economic progress,” he added. Antony claimed that India was not behind China in developing infrastructure on the borders. The Indian army has made rapid strides compared to previous years. All the countries are showing interest in cooperating with the Indian army. The minister said that the country had confidence to face any challenge. He said that the cancellation of defence contracts due to corruption will not affect the defence preparedness of the country. The defence department has been spending the entire budget allocation. He said that the department had spent Rs30 billion more than the allocation. This was not the situation in the past, when allocations for several projects got lapsed. Antony said that he was going ahead with the plan to provide the infrastructure required by the army to face any situation. |
