The US have the first non-combat loss in Lithuania. Some media reports say that US Sergeant Christopher Powell died of Ebola virus in Lithuania. Now the American contingent is under quarantine restriction, local population raises the alarm, the case is under investigation. The scandal surrounding death of Sergeant Christopher Powell is widening. As it turned out Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence kept hidden the fact of the soldier’s disease and his succeeding death. It is known that he was a member of the contingent from the 1st Cavalry Division of the US Army, deployed in Lithuania on the territory of the Duke Vaidotas Mechanised Infantry Battalion. The American personal is deployed in Rukla as part of NATO mission “Atlantic Resolve.” Parents of children who are attending the Stanislauskas Secondary School are in panic because this particular soldier among others visited earlier this school with charity mission. School director Darius Moskus couldn’t properly answer all parents’ questions and recommended to address Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas. The information appeared on the site of the non-profit organization Gold Stars Wives. This site published the appeal of Sergeant Powell’s wife in Facebook . Mrs. Maryann Powell asks for help and wants to get explanations for her husband‘s death and get life inssurance. Pentagon doesn‘t deny the fact and reports that Lithuanian authorities were timely informed. The only unanswered queston is why lithuanian authorities hid the information and did not take measures. Such behaviour puts at risk children and people of the town to be infected by fatal Ebola. |
